ANALYSIS: The Jacksonville Jaguars opted to move up in the first round to select Heisman Trophy-winning wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter out of Colorado with the second overall pick. Hunter is considered one of the best wide receiver prospects to ever enter the draft portal and will now play in an offense alongside breakout star Brian Thomas Jr.
During his final season in Colorado, Hunter led the Big 12 in receiving touchdowns (15) and receptions (96). He was a consensus All-American and took home the Fred Biletnikoff Award.
While there was some concern that Hutner would also spend time on the defense side of the ball in the NFL, it appears the Jaguars currently view him as a primary wide receiver. On the team's initial depth chart, Hunter was listed as starting receiver and as a second-straight defensive back. This is an excellent sign for his fantasy outlook.
During the preseason, Hunter exclusively spent time playing signal-calling quarterback Trevor Lawrence, further cementing his current role on the team. The top pick has been dealing with an upper-body injury over the past two weeks, but is not expected to face any restrictions in their season opener.
Even though Hunter is currently the team's No. 2 pass catcher, he possesses immense upside, as shown in his college production. Given that he's expected to see the majority of his opportunities on the offensive side of the ball, he is worth starting in all 12-team leagues.
He is a strong WR3 with upside in their Week 1 matchup against the Carolina Panthers.
