Wilyer Abreu Unlikely to Return Before End of Homestand
Wilyer Abreu (calf) is receiving treatment this weekend and will attempt to run again on Monday. It sounds as though Abreu probably won't come off the 10-day injured list before the end of the team's current homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 3, per Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald. The 26-year-old has been slow to recover from an injured right calf, and it's unclear if he'll need a short minor-league rehab assignment before rejoining the big-league roster. When Abreu does return, though, he should be a regular in right field against right-handed pitchers, which will likely push Ceddanne Rafaela back to second base. The Venezuelan outfielder has already hit a career-high 22 home runs while driving in 69 and stealing six bases in 108 games in his third big-league season in Beantown.
