Casey Schmitt Returns to Giants Lineup
Casey Schmitt (forearm) is back in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the division-rival San Diego Padres and left-hander Nestor Cortes at Petco Park, playing third base and batting cleanup. Schmitt has been cleared to return after missing the last two games due to a contusion on his right forearm. The 26-year-old former second-rounder in 2020 out of San Diego State University is currently seeing regular playing time at the hot corner with Matt Chapman (hand) back on the injured list. Schmitt is slashing .251/.324/.405 on the year with seven round-trippers, 24 RBI and 20 runs scored in 195 at-bats. He's been better in August, though, going 12-for-42 (.286) with two homers, three doubles and seven RBI, and he's hit .800 with a homer and two RBI in only five career at-bats against Cortes.
