Should you draft Omarion Hampton, Tetairoa McMillan or Travis Hunter in 2025 dynasty fantasy football rookie drafts? Zach Thompson breaks down the profiles and landing spots for Hampton, McMillan, and Hunter.

With NFL training camps getting started, preseason football and fantasy football drafts are just around the corner. Dynasty league drafts are already rolling along, and it's time to start evaluating which rookies are ready to make the biggest splash both short-term and long-term as you build your team.

The 2025 NFL Draft Class was stacked with fantasy-relevant options, who will be key to evaluate for drafting in both dynasty leagues and in typical keeper and re-draft formats as well. In this post, we'll take a look at the fantasy outlook and value of Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Travis Hunter, and Carolina Panthers wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan. Which one of these potential breakout stars should you be prioritizing this year? Let's take a look!

Player Profiles and Background

Hampton was drafted with the No. 22 overall pick in the first round by the Chargers, making him the second running back taken in the draft after only Ashton Jeanty. He starred in his time at North Carolina and has the tools to be an instant, every-down back in an offense that wants to lean heavily on the run this season. He ran a 4.46 40-yard dash at 221 pounds, showing he has both the size and the speed to work at the goal line or in the open field.

McMillan was the second receiver drafted after Travis Hunter (if you classify him as a receiver), landing with the Panthers in the top 10. The 6-foot-4 receiver tested out as a prototypical big-bodied, athletic No. 1 receiver. He is excellent at creating separation over the middle and down the field. He runs strong routes and is a versatile receiver who brings plenty of big-play ability in every scenario.

Hunter was the No. 2 overall pick by the Jaguars and brings an amazing and unique skill set. The Jaguars traded up to snag Hunter, who they'll utilize both as a wide receiver and cornerback. Hunter skipped out on testing at the NFL Combine but weighed in at 188 pounds. He has bulked up in the offseason to try and stay healthy while carrying a heavy workload during the season, potentially on both sides of the ball.

Omarion Hampton

Hampton posted his second straight season with over 1,500 rushing yards at North Carolina. He rushed for 15 touchdowns in each season, and he grew as a pass-catcher and pass-blocker as well. Hampton showed breakaway speed and plenty of power for short-yardage situations. He ranked third in the country in rushing yards after contact

Tetairoa McMillan

McMillan played three seasons for the Arizona Wildcats, posting back-to-back monster seasons. In 2023, he had 90 catches for 1,402 yards (fifth-most in the nation) and double-digit touchdowns. He set a school record with 3,423 receiving yards in his career while totaling 26 touchdowns in 37 games.

Travis Hunter

Hunter's college production was impressive on both sides of the ball, dominating on both offense and defense on his way to winning the Heisman Trophy in 2024. He played one year at Jackson State, then transferred to Colorado for the last two seasons, following coach Deion Sanders.

While playing almost 1,400 snaps, he became the first winner of both the Chuck Bednarik Award (top defensive player) and the Fred Biletnikoff Award (top wide receiver) in college football history. He hauled in 15 touchdown catches with over 1,200 receiving yards.

Draft Capital, Landing Spot, and Outlook

Omarion Hampton

The Los Angeles Chargers clearly believe in Hampton as a huge part of their offense, and he has done everything to prove himself up to the role throughout the offseason. The big question with Hampton is his playing time, since the Chargers also brought in Najee Harris this offseason. The situation got even more complicated when Harris suffered an eye injury in a fireworks incident over the July 4th holiday weekend.

Harris isn't expected to miss significant time but is on the non-football injury list as camp opens. At the very least, that means Hampton is getting all the first-team reps and working with the starters. Since the tandem was both lined up for plenty of work even before the injury, this could help Hampton grab the lion's share of the timeshare earlier.

Even if and when Harris is healthy, Hampton would seem to be the better third-down back and get deployed in passing-down situations. He excels in pass protection and brings big-play potential, so the biggest risk is that Harris would siphon goal-line carries and possibly clock-killing work at the end of games.

Hampton could get enough work to be a high-end RB2 right out of the gate. If he has a strong camp and preseason, he could be a top-10 running back, depending on how the Harris situation plays out.

Tetairoa McMillan

The Carolina Panthers struggled in the first part of last season, but they got into a good rhythm at the end of the year after Bryce Young reclaimed his starting job. Young put up good numbers while working with a questionable group of receivers. Veteran Adam Thielen was solid and led the team with 615 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns. Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker flashed some upside, but the team didn't have a true WR1.

They used the No. 8 pick in the NFL Draft to address that problem, grabbing McMillan as a player they hope will be their true No. 1 option in every way going forward. T-Mac has the size and the ability to be a high-volume play everywhere on the field. He is a big play waiting to happen, but he can also be very effective in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

Given the great landing spot and large expected workload, McMillan could be this year's top rookie receiver, and he also looks to be set for success for many years to come.

He may not have quite the "sizzle" that Hunter offers, but his consistency and lack of question marks make him more valuable in dynasty and traditional fantasy formats, where Hunter's defensive contributions don't impact fantasy production.

Update - Coker has been placed on the injured reserve due to a quadriceps injury and will miss at least the first four games of the regular season. In addition, Thielen has been traded to the Minnesota Vikings, which could open up more targets for McMillan.

Travis Hunter

The Jacksonville Jaguars moved up to draft Hunter and are ready to lean into his two-way play right away. He spent most of minicamp with the receivers, and he should be a key part of the Jaguars' passing attack. Last year's rookie standout, Brian Thomas Jr., will be the team's top receiver, but Hunter could open as high as second in line for targets.

Veteran passcatchers Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis, and Evan Engram have all left the team this offseason, and Thomas, Hunter, Parker Washington, and Brenton Strange are the key pieces in new coach Liam Coen's offense. QB Trevor Lawrence typically does a good job spreading the ball around, and Hunter could carve out a big timeshare right away.

The big question for Hunter is how much he'll be able to play two ways, and if not, which way the Jaguars will have him lean. He did it extremely effectively in college, but obviously, the NFL is another level, and he'll be in mostly uncharted territory.

Verdict

All three of these players are set up to be fantasy studs for many years to come, so there isn't really a "wrong" answer here. If you're drafting any one of them in dynasty leagues, you have plenty to be excited about going forward. If all three are on the board, I would go with McMillan, although Hampton is very close and could be the top option if your team has more need at that position.

Hampton should make an immediate impact this season for the Chargers and has the upside of being a top-10 running back. Harris's situation will be huge to monitor for his fantasy value, but that potential complication is just enough to push him behind McMillan in my overall dynasty rankings.

However, Hampton's value is still astronomical. Especially with the scarcity of every-down, workhorse backs in the league and the way coach Jim Harbaugh loves to lean on his run game, Hampton's ceiling is so incredibly high that it's almost impossible to overstate his value and upside.

Of the two receivers, I would draft T-Mac over Hunter since I trust him more to make an immediate impact. Hunter could also be more injury-prone with his defensive work on top of his offense. McMillan is the safer pick at this point as long as you believe in Bryce Young and the Panthers to continue their growth this season.

I love Hunter's upside as well, though, and he can have a huge impact on the game for the Jaguars in so many ways. He'll also be a good fantasy producer, but could be a little more inconsistent with big weeks and some quieter performances, compared to the other two incoming studs for dynasty leagues.

All three of these options will have a positive impact on dynasty teams for years to come, so get hyped for their impact in 2025 and beyond!
