Cubs Making Inquiries on Sandy Alcantara, Edward Cabrera
Sandy Alcantara and Edward Cabrera, among many others, according to sources briefed on their plans. Alcantara is owed the balance of his $17 million salary this year and $17 million in 2026 with a $21 million club option for 2027. Cabrera is earning only $1.95 million with three more years of salary arbitration remaining. He'd be the better financial fit, but Alcantara has the much higher ceiling and is looking more like his pre-injury self after missing all of 2024 after having Tommy John surgery. The Cubs are also reportedly considering Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller, while Arizona's Zac Gallen and Baltimore's Zach Eflin could become available this summer as the July 31 trade deadline nears.
