Rafael Devers Expected to Play First Base in San Francisco
Rafael Devers was asked about his long-term position during his introductory press conference in the Bay Area on Tuesday and said, "I am here to play wherever they want me to play." In his debut with the team on Tuesday night against the Cleveland Guardians, Devers served as the DH and hit third. However, manager Bob Melvin said the team is "going to work with him and get him some ground balls at first." The 28-year-old hasn't played the field yet in 2025 after losing the third base gig in Boston to Alex Bregman, and then he refused to shift to first after the season-ending knee injury to Triston Casas. Offensively, he's been a must-start, as usual, slashing .272/.401/.504 with a .905 OPS, 15 homers, 58 RBI and 47 runs scored. He's expected to eventually become the team's everyday first baseman, making him even more valuable in fantasy.
