Brett Baty Heads to the Bench With Groin Injury
Brett Baty (groin) is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the division-rival Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. Ronny Mauricio will man the hot corner instead and will hit eighth against Braves right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach. Despite a day off on Monday, Baty will not make the start after exiting Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Rays with tightness in his right groin. In addition to his injury, the 25-year-old has hit a rough patch at the plate in the month of June, going 6-for-44 (.136) with two homers, four RBI, a steal and 14 strikeouts in 14 games played to drop his season slash line to .219/.267/.419 with a below-average .686 OPS. The former first-rounder has been seeing regular playing time at third with Mark Vientos (hamstring) on the injured list. Mauricio has gone 7-for-34 with two homers, two RBI and two steals in his first 10 games of the season.
