Addison Barger Batting Third on Wednesday
Addison Barger is starting at third base and is batting in the three-hole in Wednesday's game at the Rogers Centre against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies and rookie right-hander Mick Abel, who will be making just his second start in the majors. Barger, 25, is one of the hottest hitters in baseball right now and is gaining opportunities in the Jays lineup with both Anthony Santander (shoulder) and Daulton Varsho (hamstring) on the injured list. He went 2-for-4 in Tuesday's loss to the Phils while homering for a fourth straight game. In addition to the power of late, Barger has hit safely in his last six games, going 9-for-21 (.429) with four homers, a double, eight RBI and seven runs scored. The former sixth-rounder in 2018 has become an everyday player for Toronto and is currently slashing .274/.338/.508 with an .846 OPS, six homers and 19 RBI in 124 at-bats.
