Welcome, RotoBallers! If you do not know me, my name is Brandon and I write both The First-Serve and The Kick-Off for tennis and soccer, respectively. If you have not checked those out, make sure you do! It is the return of the NHL season, which means it's time to sharpen our skills and partake in NHL DFS! As always, I'll give you the best tools to succeed and the info you need to build the best lineups possible for your GPP and cash game NHL contests on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

Today, I'll be bringing you my NHL lineup picks, analysis, and advice for NHL DFS contests on DraftKings and FanDuel for Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. EST. NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 1/27/24

We have finally made it! The 2023-2024 season is just about halfway done as the holiday season closes. There have been some surprises, both good and bad, and generational talent Connor Bedard has not disappointed. With teams still in flux and many unwritten stories yet to take fold, the race to the Stanley Cup is heating up!

Tonight we have a 10-game slate and four teams playing on a back-to-back: New York Rangers, Pittsburgh, Florida, and Vegas. The currently live top-three highest implied team totals are: Vancouver with 4.2, Pittsburgh with 4.0, and Calgary with 3.9. I will do my best to guide you through this 10-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

DraftKings and FanDuel Goalies - NHL DFS Picks

Petr Mrazek - DK $7K || FD $6.7K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

Mrazek is not the typical goalie that comes to mind when filling out a roster; however, he finds himself in a rather decent matchup, despite it being in Calgary. The Flames are a shell of their former selves and it is only a matter of time until the entire roster gets blown to pieces and they commence a full rebuild.

Mrazek is coming into this game with a 2-3 record, a 1.99 Goals Against Average, and a 0.937 Save Percentage in his last five games. This includes games against: Edmonton, Vancouver, New York Islanders, and Dallas. The Flames are not the best Shots Per Goal Per 60 team anymore; however, they are still firing enough useless shots on the net to help Mrazek build a floor tomorrow.

DraftKings and FanDuel Centers - NHL DFS Picks

Sam Bennett - DK $5.5K || FD $6.4K

Opponent - New York Islanders

Bennett and the Panthers could easily get overlooked on a big slate tonight after they went into a shootout last night in Pittsburgh and have now traveled to UBS Arena on a back-to-back. However, the Panthers and more so the second line has a terrific matchup tonight against the second line of the Islanders.

Bennett is also coming into this game on a three-game point streak where he has amassed one goal and four assists. In his last five outings, he has 1 goal, 5 assists, 16 shots, and 8 blocked shots. Per the norm, the goaltending of the Islanders is keeping them in games with New York sitting in the bottom three in Per 60 stats for Shots Against, Scoring Chances Against, and High Danger Chances Against. Bennett has a legitimate chance of having big back-to-back performances.            

Josh Norris - DK $4.9K || FD $6.4K

Opponent - New York Rangers

Eventually, the Rangers will see a turn in fortunes, although tonight is not the night. Comparing their last 25 games to their most recent 10 games and the Rangers are trending down on both ends of the ice. Meanwhile, the Senators have been trending upward offensively ever since they got a healthy roster. A big piece of the success is center Josh Norris.

Throughout his last five performances, he has 3 assists, 14 shots, and 2 blocked shots. Norris is coming into this game with a two-game point streak and his shot volume over the aforementioned window is something worth mentioning. As long as he continues to fire the puck, he will be a hot commodity, especially for under $5K on DraftKings.

DraftKings and FanDuel Wings - NHL DFS Picks

Matt Boldy - DK $6.1K || FD $7K

Opponent - Anaheim Ducks

Despite having Kirill Kaprizov and Mats Zuccarello, some may argue that Matt Boldy is the face of the team now. Over his last five games, Boldly has 1 goal, 4 assists, 12 shots, and 1 blocked shot. Surprisingly, his shot volume has taken a significant hit; however, he is still producing points, which is what ultimately matters. Mats Zuccarello may be out for this game tonight against Anaheim and if he is, Matt Boldy will replace him on the top line. This will only further boost Boldy’s value, whose salary does not currently reflect a first line role.             

Pius Suter - DK $3.6K || FD $4.7K

Opponent - Columbus Blue Jackets

By this point, Suter is a household name after his three-goal explosion to drag Vancouver back into a losing game on Wednesday. In the winger’s last five games, he has four goals and 12 shots and has now been elevated into the top six once again.

The Blue Jackets are still poor defensively and they still have poor goaltending for the most part. However, they did get a recent boost with defenseman Zach Werenski returning to the lineup. Nevertheless, the Blue Jackets in Per 60 stats and excluding splits are in the bottom five in Shots Against, Scoring Chances Against, High Danger Chances Against, and Goals Against.

  • Rust (DK $5.8K || FD $7.3K)

 

DraftKings and FanDuel Defensemen - NHL DFS Picks

Brock Faber - DK $5.5K || FD $6K

Opponent - Anaheim Ducks

The Fabernator is making his own in the NHL now and at this point, some may question if he is made out of steel for the amount of blocked shots he has per game. Over his last five outings, he has 2 goals, 6 assists, 8 shots, and 14 blocked shots. He has also registered double-digit fantasy points on DraftKings in all five of those games.

It is no longer a secret that Faber is in form and at home against a struggling Anaheim team, he can extend this form another game. Excluding splits in Per 60 stats, the Ducks are in the bottom 10 in Shots Against, Scoring Chances Against, and Goals Against and they are the third-worst in High Danger Chances Against.          

Olen Zellweger - DK $3K || FD $K

Opponent - Minnesota Wild

Looking at the other end of the ice, we have another talented blueliner in Olen Zellweger. Drafted by the Ducks in the second round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Zellweger was another potential heir to now teammate Cam Fowler’s role with the Ducks.

Unlike the aforementioned Brock Faber, Zelly is an offensive defenseman through and through and he will rarely step in front of a shot if he doesn’t need to. However, since his NHL debut, he has instantly taken over as the quarterback of the top power-play unit for the Ducks. This provides immense value, especially at $3K on DraftKings -- only on DraftKings right now -- and in a good matchup in Minnesota.
