Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is appealing his four-game suspension for a hit to the head of Florida Panthers defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson. McAvoy was assessed a five-minute match penalty and a game misconduct for a high hit on Ekman-Larsson midway through the third period of Monday's 3-2 overtime win over the Panthers and was slapped with a four-game ban on Tuesday. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has the final say on whether to uphold or reduce the suspension while he held up a four-game suspension upon appeal for Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson in a similar incident last week. The American-born McAvoy has two goals and eight points on 19 shots with 17 hits and 20 blocked shots across nine games on the season.--Brenton Kemp
