Martin Truex Jr. started off on the pole for the Xfinity 500 Sunday afternoon from Martinsville. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver was third after Stage 1 but began having problems in Stage 2. Truex Jr. never recovered as he dropped into the 20's and though he got back to 12th, that was nowhere near enough to make the playoffs. Ideally, Truex Jr. needed lots of stage points and a podium finish more than likely.
