Orioles To Call Up Heston Kjerstad

Baltimore Orioles first base prospect Heston Kjerstad is being recalled from the minor leagues, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation. Ryan Mountcastle (shoulder) suffered a minor injury in Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals and is being considered day-to-day, but Kjerstad will over the Orioles some extra depth at the position in the meantime. The team's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has hit a combined .303/.376/.529 with a .905 OPS, 21 home runs, 29 doubles, eight triples, 55 RBI, five stolen bases and 87 runs scored in 121 games with Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk this year. The former second overall pick in 2020 was set back by injuries early in his pro career, but he finally got back on the field last year and has proved this year why he was such a standout prospect. It's unknown how much he'll play in Baltimore with the team trying to clinch the American League East down the stretch.
