Anthony Volpe Hitting In Nine-Hole Against Padres

New York Yankees rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe has been dropped to ninth in the batting order on Saturday against right-hander Michael Wacha and the San Diego Padres. Volpe earned himself the starting shortstop gig to open the 2023 season because of an impressive spring training, but he's starting to really struggle at the plate. The 22-year-old is hitting an embarrassing .183 (17-for-93) with two doubles, a triple, five home runs, 12 RBI, five stolen bases, five walks and 33 strikeouts in 100 trips to the plate over 24 games. Expect Volpe to remain near the bottom of the Yankees' order until further notice, and if he continues to struggle at the dish, New York might have to consider sending him back to the minors.
