NHL DFS Analysis and Picks for 12/10/22

The wild outcomes continue to flood each slate leading up to the holiday roster freeze. As we approach Christmas, teams will be upset and many will use their current success and failure as a measuring point for their next steps after the freeze is over. This includes roster moves up to the hour prior to puck drop if the player is close enough and it requires Daily Fantasy Players to be more mindful of last-minute news. Tonight we will revert back to a smaller slate with one or two half-way decent matchups. There will be multiple teams playing on a back-to-back: Calgary, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Islanders and Minnesota. The currently live top-3 highest implied team totals are: Pittsburgh with 4.2, Toronto with 3.4 and Los Angeles with 3.4 goals. I will do my best in guiding you through this five-game slate on DraftKings and FanDuel starting at 7:00 p.m. EST.

Vegas Odds for the Day

NHL DFS Goalies

Ilya Samsonov- DK $7.9K || FD $6.5K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

Samsonov could prove to be the difference-maker on this small 5-game slate tonight. The netminder is on fire winning 4 of his last 5 games and he is coming off a 5-0 shutout win against the Kings. The Flames played last night in what was a snooze fest on their end in a 3-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Flames have the potential to be a successful team with the pure volume of shots taken, however, they are poor chances and it will provide Samsonov with a solid floor.

Others To Consider (Cash/GPP): Kochetkov (DK $8.2K || FD $7.8K), Varlamov (DK $7.2K || FD $8.2K)

NHL DFS Centers

Paul Statsny-DK $2.5K || FD $3.8K

Opponent - New York Islanders

Yes, I did list Semyon Varlamov as an option in the net tonight. However, Statsny cannot go unmentioned. The center had his time in the limelight at one point when he ran the top line for the Colorado Avalanche. However, since then, he has not been the same player. Statsny’s point totals have fallen off along with a decline in responsibility. Seeing meager minutes on the fourth line over the last 4-5 seasons has made Statsny nothing more than a role player. Although, now he gets the chance to showcase any remaining talent he still has left with teammate Sebastian Aho out for tonight’s matchup with the Islanders. This will promote Statsny to the top line for the Hurricanes making him the ultimate value play.

Elias Pettersson- DK $6.8K || FD $9.7K

Opponent - Minnesota Wild

Pettersson is finding form once again with 2 goals, 5 assists, and 8 shots over his last three games. The second line for the Canucks continues to carry the offense and they will be playing a traveling Minnesota Wild team who are playing on the second half of their back-to-back. This is a prime matchup in the making going against a lesser-skilled Wild second line.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Tavares (DK $6.5K || FD $8.4K), Malkin (DK $6.1K || FD $7.3K)

NHL DFS Wings

Mitch Marner- DK $6.8K || FD $8.5K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

Marner has officially reached Super Sayian. The Leaf's winger is playing out of his mind and with a goal against the Kings, he now is on a 20-game point streak. However, not only does he have a massive point streak going, but he is also averaging 3 or more shots per game. That is the perfect production to match his value. He is also playing the Flames who are traveling on the second half of their back-to-back, making this a recipe for success.

Kyle Okposo- DK $2.7K || FD $4.2K

Opponent - Pittsburgh Penguins

If anyone watched the Penguins versus the Sabres meeting last night, you will not be surprised by this play. Sabres winger Jeff Skinner is most likely going to be suspended for at least a game after he cross-checked the mouth of Jake Guentzel. When Skinner was out of the lineup earlier this season, Okposo replaced him for the time being. The same should happen this time around, providing yet another extreme value play. Okposo does not generate shots in bunches or points, but he can come up when it matters most – scored the game-tying goal in the game last night against the Penguins to force overtime.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Fiala (DK $6.3K || FD $7.1K), Rakell (DK $5.6K || FD $6.4K)

NHL DFS Defensemen

Jeff Petry- DK $5.5K || FD $5.5K

Opponent - Buffalo Sabres

Rinse & Repeat from last night. Since Tuesday’s article Petry has barely seen a salary rise despite putting together a solid outing – 3 shots and 5 blocked shots –. As stated in that article, Petry is a peripheral guy through and through and points come second. Nevertheless, Letang is still out for the Penguins and Petry continues to oversee all of his duties, including the power-play. Buffalo is an offense-heavy team and they will be taking plenty of shots for Petry to block. Furthermore, he should also have plenty of chances to shoot as well with this most likely turning into a shootout.

Rasmus Sandin- DK $3.9K || FD $3.8K

Opponent - Calgary Flames

Sandin is starting to fall back down to Earth with his streaky play. Over his last five games, he has 2 goals, 1 assist, 10 shots, and 10 blocked shots. His peripherals seem to be staying around, but he has taken a pretty steep decline in point production. Luckily, as aforementioned, the Maple Leafs are playing the Flames who just lost to the Blue Jackets last night and they are traveling for the second half of their back-to-back. There is no better matchup on the slate.

Others To Consider (CASH/GPP): Hughes (DK $5.9K || FD $6.7K), Andersson (DK $5K || FD $6.6K)
