Kyle Larson narrowly missed out on the pole for Sunday's YellaWood 500 by a mere 0.022 seconds. Basically, his last sector was about a tenth of a second slower than Christopher Bell. That was the difference between second and first in Saturday's final round of qualifying. Larson has endured some awful luck at Talladega. The Hendrick Motorsports Racing driver finally broke through with a top-five result (fourth place). The No.5 car also was in the top-five in each stage. Larson has a 23 point cushion on the playoff bubble but is hopeful the better luck in the Next-Gen car continues. --Chris Wassel - RotoBaller
