Michael Pineda Not Expected To Need Surgery
Michael Pineda (finger) is not expected to need surgery to fix his fractured right middle finger, according to skipper A.J. Hinch. Pineda will be re-evaluated in a couple of weeks. The veteran right-hander will likely be out for over a month, but Hinch said the team is optimistic that Pineda won't miss multiple months. The 33-year-old was off to a great start for Detroit before the injury, posting a 3.22 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with a 12:4 K:BB in five starts covering 22 1/3 innings pitched. If you have the room, Pineda is certainly worth stashing. With Matt Manning (shoulder) and Casey Mize (elbow) also sidelined, right-handed pitching prospect Alex Faedo could remain in the starting rotation for the time being.
