Week 12 Fantasy Football News and Outlooks

Matt Prater, Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills kicker Matt Prater has continued to flash just enough potential in the team's high-powered offense to remain relevant in fantasy football. The 41-year-old will look to rack up double-digit points against the Houston Texans on Thursday night for the first time since Week 8. Prater has totaled just 13 points over his last three games.

Meanwhile, the Texans are allowing just 5.1 points per game to opposing kickers, the lowest total in the league. With Josh Allen leading the way, expect the Bills to find the endzone multiple times, but Prater's value will come from field goal opportunities, which are shaky at best. Despite the tough matchup, Prater can be used as a streamer in Week 12 and is ranked 10th among all kickers in the latest RotoBaller rankings.

Ka'imi Fairbairn, Houston Texans

Houston Texans kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps) missed his team's last two games with a quad injury, but he was back at practice this week and has no injury designation for Thursday night's home game against the Bills. Fairbairn has been one of the most reliable kickers in the NFL over the last few seasons, making 22 of his 25 field goal attempts, including two from over 50 yards.

He also converted all 12 extra point attempts. He'll retake his starting job from Matthew Wright and will be kicking at home indoors this week against the Bills, who have allowed the eighth-fewest fantasy points to kickers this season. If someone dropped Fairbairn, he can be a nice pickup based on his reliability, and he is the K17 in RotoBaller's rankings this week in his return.

Matt Gay, San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers signed free-agent kicker Matt Gay to their practice squad on Wednesday and released wide receiver Russell Gage Jr. from their practice squad in a corresponding move, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Eddy Pineiro (hamstring) suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain in the Week 11 win over the Arizona Cardinals and is not expected to be available to kick this coming Monday night against the Carolina Panthers. Gay was just waived by the Washington Commanders on Monday after missing two kicks in a three-point loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in Madrid.

The 31-year-old veteran looks like he'll be the 49ers' short-term replacement at place kicker with Pineiro injured, but fantasy managers should be looking to stay away. The seven-year veteran has been inconsistent, making 13 of his 19 field-goal tries in 10 games, including going 4-for-9 from 50-plus yards out.

Jake Moody, Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders signed kicker Jake Moody off the Chicago Bears' practice squad on Monday, according to John Keim of ESPN. It looks like Moody will get the first chance to take over kicking duties in D.C. after the team released struggling veteran Matt Gay on Monday. However, with the Commanders on bye in Week 12, the team could bring in additional competition for Moody as they prepare for a Week 13 matchup on Sunday Night Football against the 9-2 Denver Broncos. Moody, 25, was cut by the San Francisco 49ers early this season before he latched on with the Bears.

He has gone 9-for-12 on field-goal tries and 5-for-5 on his extra-point attempts in 2025 in just three games played. Moody has a career 76.1% success rate on his 71 career field-goal attempts, and fantasy managers will want to stay away from him if he's the Commanders' placekicker for a difficult matchup in Week 13.
