Justin Herbert, QB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert completed 37 of his 55 pass attempts for 420 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions during Sunday's Week 7 loss against the Indianapolis Colts. He also took three sacks and led the team with 31 rushing yards.
Herbert turned in his best fantasy performance of the season thanks to his extremely high yardage total and three touchdowns, but the two picks -- plus Los Angeles' struggles running the football and Indianapolis' strong offense -- made it tough for the Bolts to overcome an early deficit.
Herbert remains a mid-range QB1 in fantasy football, though, and he should continue to be started heading into Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Carson Wentz, QB, Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said on Tuesday that veteran quarterback Carson Wentz (shoulder) will make another start in Week 8 on Thursday Night Football against the hosting Los Angeles Chargers, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic. Max Brosmer will serve as the backup, with J.J. McCarthy (ankle) likely serving as the emergency third QB on game day again.
McCarthy will be Minnesota's starting QB again when he's fully recovered from a high-ankle sprain that he suffered in Week 2, but the Vikes aren't going to rush the former first-rounder back. Barring a setback, it's more likely that McCarthy makes his return as the starter in Week 9 versus the division-rival Detroit Lions. Wentz has played through an injury to his left (non-throwing) shoulder since Week 5, but he's fine to play through it and will make for a low-end QB2 option in superflex leagues this week against the Bolts.
Carson Wentz has completed 66.9% of his 142 pass attempts for 1,072 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions in his four starts in place of McCarthy. UPDATE: Wentz upgraded to a full practice on Tuesday.
Jordan Addison, WR, Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison caught nine of 12 targets for 128 yards in Sunday's 28-22 loss to the Eagles. Addison was peppered with targets from quarterback Carson Wentz all game, with the 12 targets matching a career high for the 23-year-old wideout.
He hasn't missed a beat since returning from his three-game suspension to begin the season, recording 18 catches for 283 yards and a touchdown on 26 targets in three games.
The quarterback situation will be one to monitor for Addison moving forward, but he is talented enough to produce regardless. He's firmly in the WR2/WR3 mix moving forward.
Aaron Jones Sr., RB, Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings are designating running back Aaron Jones Sr. (hamstring) to return from Injured Reserve on Tuesday, meaning he could potentially come off IR to play in Week 8 on Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Chargers, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
The Vikings will now have 21 days to activate Jones from IR officially, but since he did not practice on Monday, it seems likely that Minnesota will wait another week to bring him back, which would come in Week 9 on Sunday, Nov. 2, against the division-rival Detroit Lions. The 30-year-old was serving as the Vikings' lead back before he injured his hamstring in the loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 14 in Week 2.
Since Jones' injury, Jordan Mason has been the team's clear lead back, and he should continue in that role for one more week on Thursday in L.A. This is fantasy managers' cue to check to see if Jones is available on the waiver wire. UPDATE: Jones was limited in Tuesday's practice.
Kimani Vidal, RB, Los Angeles Chargers
Los Angeles Chargers running back Kimani Vidal couldn't capitalize on last week's breakout, rushing nine times for only 20 yards and adding four catches for 15 yards in Sunday's 38-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
A negative game script forced the Chargers to abandon the run early, giving Vidal little room to operate. With a short week ahead against the Minnesota Vikings, the Bolts may need to rely more on the ground game to balance their offense.
The Vikings are much more vulnerable against the run than the pass, providing Vidal a potential opportunity for rebound, but only if the Chargers can keep the game close. He remains the clear RB1 until Omarion Hampton (ankle) returns from IR.
