Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 7:
Mike Evans, WR, Detroit Lions
FOX Sports' Greg Auman reports that Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans (hamstring) did not practice on Friday, but is still on track to suit up for Monday night's matchup with the hosting Detroit Lions. Evans returned to practice (limited) for the first time on Thursday since injuring his hamstring in the team's Week 3 win over the Jets.
His DNP on Friday, however, "is part of his weekly routine and doesn't represent any kind of setback with his hamstring," per Auman. It's excellent news for Tampa Bay, as their offense is alarmingly short of skill players, with teammates Chris Godwin (leg), Emeka Egbuka (hamstring), and Bucky Irving (foot, shoulder) all expected to be out in Week 7.
Fantasy managers should monitor the veteran's status over the next few days, but he'll be hard to sit if active, even in his first game back after an extended absence.
Tez Johnson, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Tez Johnson has been trending up the last two weeks with five receptions, 104 yards, and a touchdown on seven targets with Mike Evans (hamstring) and Chris Godwin (leg) sidelined.
Fellow rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) was also injured in the Week 6 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Although Johnson only caught one pass (on three targets) on Sunday, he played a season-high 72% of the offensive snaps and made his one reception count with a 45-yard touchdown, his first in the NFL. Evans could return on Monday against the Detroit Lions for the first time since straining his hamstring, but Egbuka and Godwin are expected to be inactive.
It means that the speedy 23-year-old Johnson could feature more again in Tampa's pass-heavy offense as a deep threat for quarterback Baker Mayfield against a depleted Lions secondary. Johnson is setting up as a boom/bust flex option in Week 7 in deeper fantasy leagues.
David Montgomery, RB, Detroit Lions
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that he would like to get running back David Montgomery a "bigger piece of the pie" in the rushing attack, according to Nolan Bianchi of the Detroit News. With a negative game script in the Week 6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, Montgomery only saw four carries for 24 yards and caught two passes for 37 yards.
It was by far the 28-year-old's smallest role through six weeks of the 2025 season. The Lions offense is at its best when they are dictating the pace of the game and able to mix in plenty of play-action passing. Monty also played a season-low 31% of the offensive snaps in Week 6 after seeing a season-high 53% of the snaps in Week 5.
It sounds like Detroit will make it a point to get Montgomery more involved in Week 7 on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, making him a more attractive RB3/flex play against a Bucs defense that has been in the middle of the pack in terms of fantasy points allowed to RBs this year.
Travis Hunter, WR, Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Travis Hunter could have a breakout game against the Los Angeles Rams during their visit to London. After a quiet start to the season, Liam Coen stated to the press the gameplan would be to get Hunter more involved on offense this week.
That is music to the ears of fantasy managers who drafted the talented rookie high. In limited action, the two-way phenom has showed flashes of talent while getting acclimated to both sides of the ball in the NFL.
On the other hand, this could just be coach speak, so fantasy managers shouldn't get too hasty. Bold managers in need of an upside play should feel good about starting Hunter in Week 7.
Matthew Golden, WR, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden is getting better fantasy production little by little each week, and looks to get into the end zone when the Packers head to Arizona to take on the Cardinals in Week 7.
Golden has seen a slight uptick in involvement in targets when he's on the field, as his targets per route run have crept upwards in the last three weeks, up to last week's season-high 21.7 percent. In that three-game stretch, Golden has also averaged five targets, so there's room to grow there as well.
Even with the spread-out nature of the targets in the passing game, Golden has clear upside and will be a flex-worthy fantasy wide receiver in Week 7 for Green Bay's matchup against the Cardinals.
