Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting for Week 15 MNF:
Aaron Rodgers, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is coming off his highest passing yardage total of the season in Week 14 and will take on the Miami Dolphins at home on Monday Night Football. Miami enters on a hot streak, having won four straight games while limiting opposing quarterbacks to the 10th-fewest fantasy points per contest over that span. That said, the Dolphins' run defense has been even more formidable than their pass defense.
With Pittsburgh struggling to establish the ground game lately, the Steelers could be forced to lean more heavily on Rodgers' arm. Still, while this matchup is expected to be competitive, it is not projected to be particularly high-scoring, which caps the 41-year-old's fantasy upside. Fantasy managers should avoid relying on Rodgers as anything more than a low-end QB2 in superflex formats in Week 15.
Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been marginally better lately, avoiding costly turnovers and letting his running back and defense carry his team to four straight wins. His numbers have been not impressive even during his team's winning streak. He has attempted under 25 passes in every one of those games with 15 or fewer completions and under 175 passing yards in each game.
He only has three passing touchdowns in those four wins as well with only one total touchdown in his last three games. He may have to do more this week against Pittsburgh, but he'll likely continue to rely on short "dink and dunk" passing, which limits his potential. He's the No. 27 QB in RotoBaller's rankings this week, meaning he is not a strong starting option in almost any format.
Jaylen Warren, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren continues to be a strong RB2 option in fantasy football, but his exact role in Monday's Week 15 contest against the Miami Dolphins will depend on game script. Warren had an underwhelming role on the ground last Sunday as he had just eight carries for 13 yards. However, he salvaged his fantasy showing with three catches, 49 receiving yards, and a receiving touchdown.
He ranked outside the top 55 running backs in both yards before contact per attempt and yards after contact per attempt. Pittsburgh is favored by 3.5 points over Miami, which means the Steelers could go run-heavy. However, he'll also have to share some volume with Kenneth Gainwell. Pittsburgh routinely gets the ball in its running backs' hands, but it's just a matter of whether it happens on the ground or through the air. Either way, Warren is a top-24 fantasy running back for this week.
De'Von Achane, RB, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane (ribs) has been one of the best fantasy football running backs of the season, and the Dolphins and his fantasy managers can breathe a sigh of relief since it looks like he'll be available in the Week 15 Monday Night Football matchup with the Steelers. Coach Mike McDaniel said Achane is expected to play after the star back was forced to leave last week's win over the Jets. Before leaving, Achane had seven carries for 92 yards and a touchdown while adding a 13-yard reception as well.
McDaniel said that Achane could have returned if needed, so it makes sense that he won't miss any further time. Even though he's in a tough matchup against the Steelers, Achane is a must-start, top-tier running back in Week 15. He already has 1,126 rushing yards and 383 receiving yards in his 13 games this year, along with a total of 11 touchdowns. He's the No. 4 RB in RotoBaller's Week 15 rankings, and he should be started in all formats since he is trending in the right direction for Monday.
Kenneth Gainwell, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell has been heavily involved as a pass-catcher in recent weeks and should maintain a significant role against the Miami Dolphins in Week 15. Though Gainwell has taken a backseat to Jaylen Warren on the ground, the former has earned six or more targets in three of his past four games.
Unfortunately, production may be hard to come by on Monday night, with Miami allowing the second-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing backs over the past four weeks. The weather in Pittsburgh, with gusting winds expected, could force quarterback Aaron Rodgers to check down to his running backs and tight ends more frequently, however. Gainwell's utilization as a receiver keeps him in flex consideration for fantasy managers in PPR leagues this week.
Jaylen Wright, RB, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins running back Jaylen Wright has been buried on the Dolphins' depth chart this season, and it looks like he'll return to a minimal role after making the most of his chance last week and posting a breakout game. Wright and the Dolphins face the Steelers on Monday, but De'Von Achane (ribs) is on track to return, relegating Wright back to a reduced role.
While filling in against the Jets in Week 14, Wright ripped off 107 rushing yards with a touchdown on 24 carries. He only had 18 carries before that game in the whole season, though, so if Achane returns, Wright's role will be too limited for him to be a strong fantasy play. In RotoBaller's Week 15 rankings, Wright is the No. 51 RB, so he can be left on the bench or the waiver wire in almost all formats, despite reminding everyone of his potential ceiling if he gets playing time.
DK Metcalf, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf had an excellent showing in Week 14, hauling in seven of 12 targets for a season-high 148 yards in a win over the Baltimore Ravens. He was listed on the injury report earlier this week and spent a night in the hospital for stomach pain, but appears to be a full-go for Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins.
Though Miami's defense is surging, it has still allowed three different wideouts to finish as top-24 fantasy options over its past four games. The weather in Pittsburgh will be worth monitoring, as cold temperatures and strong winds could limit Metcalf's opportunities downfield. Still, the 28-year-old should remain a focal point of the Steelers' offense and profiles as a low-end WR2 for fantasy managers in Week 15.
Jaylen Waddle, WR, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle will try to help the Dolphins secure their fifth straight win this Monday when they visit the Steelers. While the Dolphins have had a very low-volume passing attack in recent weeks, Waddle has remained a solid starting option in most formats because he is clearly the top option in the offense. Waddle has at least three catches and at least six targets in six straight games with three touchdowns and an average of 67.8 yards per game during that span.
He had five catches for 50 yards and a touchdown last week against the Jets, and he will be in a solid matchup against the Steelers, who rank in the top 10 in fantasy points allowed to receivers this season. The Steelers have allowed 12 receiver touchdowns in 13 games, so Waddle has good potential for another productive week if he continues to get so many targets. In RotoBaller's Week 15 rankings, Waddle is the No. 11 WR, making him a low-end WR1 or a high-end WR2 in standard-sized leagues. He should be started in almost all formats since his production has been so reliably consistent.
Darren Waller, TE, Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins tight end Darren Waller hasn't been able to find the same success that he experienced earlier in the season. Since returning from injury, Waller has been held to three receptions for 60 yards over the last two games. The good news is, Waller is heading into a plus-matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 15.
A defensive unit that is allowing over 16 PPR fantasy points to tight ends this season, according to Yahoo Sports. Waller has proven he is capable of making big plays when he's given the chance. He could be worth a look as a deep league option for fantasy managers who are desperate for help at tight end.
