Fantasy Football Matchup Outlooks

Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 14:

Brenton Strange, TE, Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange has been a major spark for the Jaguars since his return in Week 13. In his last two games, he's hauled in eight of nine targets for 138 yards and a touchdown. After being placed on the injured reserve with a hip injury suffered in Week 5, Strange has reminded Jacksonville how valuable he is. When Strange is active, the Jags are 6-1, and without him, they are 2-3.

Despite crowded competition for targets with Brian Thomas Jr. and Jakobi Meyers, Strange has a clear role in this offense and a strong connection with quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 14, who have allowed the third-most fantasy points to tight ends this season. Fantasy managers can rely on Strange as a starting option in Week 14, who will look to help the Jaguars to an outright lead in the AFC South.

Darren Waller, TE, Dolphins

Miami Dolphins veteran tight end Darren Waller made his return in Week 13, hauling in two of three targets for 47 yards in the 21-17 victory over the New Orleans Saints. Waller came back in Week 13, after suffering a pectoral injury in Week 7 that forced him to the injured reserve. The former Raiders' star was limited to just 47% of the snaps in his return, while backups Julian Hill played 58%, and Greg Dulcich played 37%.

Waller faces a New York Jets defense in Week 14, which has allowed the third-most touchdowns to tight ends this season, with seven scores against them. Waller should see an expanded workload in Week 14, and is a low-end TE1 that could be relied on with injuries and bye weeks affecting other tight ends across the league.

A.J. Barner, TE, Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks tight end AJ Barner (knee/shoulder) has carved out a large role for himself this season. However, the Falcons are No. 2 against opposing tight ends in fantasy. Atlanta has allowed fewer than 100 fantasy points to the position in 12 games this season. Barner's volume has been inconsistent, meaning that he is susceptible to bad matchups. Despite possessing a bit of a knack for finding the end zone, as evidenced by his eight touchdowns in two seasons in the league, it is difficult to trust a player with so little consistent volume.

However, given that players such as San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle are on a bye this week, you may be looking for a plug-and-play. Barner possesses a very low floor, but his athleticism and nose for the end zone make him a viable one-week option, albeit a risky one. He is a better option than many of the other tight ends on the waiver wire; just proceed with caution. It is worth noting that Barner has been dealing with a knee/shoulder injury this week, but he is practicing, and it does not seem like an issue that will bother him this weekend.

Zach Ertz, TE, Commanders

Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz had a monster game in Week 13, recording 10 catches for 106 yards on 13 targets against the Denver Broncos. The 35-year-old has been a stable producer in recent weeks, recording at least four catches and 42 receiving yards in each of his last four games. Perhaps most importantly for Ertz's production upside, Washington could be getting quarterback Jayden Daniels (elbow) back from injury in the coming weeks, possibly even as soon as Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Across 23 career games where Ertz has shared the field with Daniels, he's recorded 11 touchdown catches. While Ertz's fantasy value still mostly comes from his stable floor, his touchdown upside skyrockets with Daniels on the field. Ertz could establish himself as a consistent low-end starting fantasy tight end if Daniels does indeed return in early December.

Kyle Pitts Sr., TE, Falcons

Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts Sr. had a fantastic Week 13 with 82 receiving yards on eight targets, and is looking to continue that production in Week 14 against the Seattle Seahawks, who have been vulnerable to the tight end position, allowing the fifth most fantasy points to tight ends. What's most encouraging for Pitts is that his targets went up in Week 13 to eight, compared to the last three games, where he only saw a combined 13 targets.

With Kirk Cousins now under center for the second straight week in Week 13 and more acclimated to the offense, the rapport between Pitts and Cousins showed in Week 13. The last time Cousins played two games in a row was in 2024, before Michael Penix Jr. took over as the team's QB1 in Week 16 of that season. Based on the trend and matchup, Pitts' stock is on the rise heading into the final weeks of the fantasy football season. Rotoballer ranks him as the TE7 for Week 14.
