Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football waiver wire outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider adding off waivers in Week 7:
Michael Mayer, TE, Las Vegas Raiders
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Michael Mayer returned from his concussion and stepped right into a key role for the Raiders in their Week 6 win over the Titans. He filled in for the injured Brock Bowers (knee) and played 92% of the team's offensive snaps, catching five of his team-high seven targets for 50 yards and a touchdown.
If Bowers is out again in Week 7, which seems likely to be the case, Mayer will be an outstanding tight end option for the Raiders' divisional matchup with the Chiefs.
The Chiefs have been very good against tight ends overall this year, but Sam LaPorta did have a good showing against them on Sunday Night Football, which could indicate a good game is coming for Mayer if he stays so involved in Week 7. Mayer should be owned in all leagues and can be a TE1 if Bowers is ruled out.
Luther Burden III, WR, Chicago Bears
Chicago Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III has shown a high ceiling in his first five games in the NFL, and it looks like he could have more work coming his way in the coming weeks. After a bye week in Week 5, he led all Bears' wide receivers with 51 receiving yards on his four catches on four targets in Monday night's win over the Commanders.
Burden had 101 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against the Cowboys, but then had a down game in Week 4 with two catches for a total of -2 yards. Olamide Zaccheaus actually led the team with six targets, while D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze each had one more than Burden. However, with Moore's status uncertain after spending the night in the hospital, Burden could step into a more involved role in Week 7 against the Saints.
The rookie brings a high ceiling if he's on the waiver wire and is worth a speculative pickup in standard-sized leagues since the Bears are past their bye and have favorable matchups against the Saints, Ravens, Bengals, and Giants in the next four weeks.
Christian Watson, WR, Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (knee) did not play in Week 6 against the Cincinnati Bengals, but head coach Matt LaFleur said he's looked "pretty damn good" and that he's "excited for when that day comes," according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
The Packers aren't going to rush Watson back after he tore his ACL in the Week 18 regular-season finale last year. The 26-year-old returned to practice for the first time this year last Wednesday and was limited this week. Depending on how much Watson is able to do this week in practice, it's possible he'll officially be activated from the Physically Unable to Perform list to make his debut in Week 7 versus the Arizona Cardinals.
Watson has had trouble staying healthy early in his NFL career and will be returning to a crowded receiving corps, but he has the potential to be an explosive deep threat for the Packers' offense when everything is right.
Kenneth Gainwell, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
In Week 4, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren was a late inactive with a knee injury, and backup Kenneth Gainwell took full advantage of an expanded role, turning his 25 opportunities into 134 yards and two touchdowns.
Following a Week 5 bye, Jaylen Warren was back in the lineup for the Steelers' Week 6 win over the Browns, pushing Gainwell back into a supporting role. Warren saw 31 snaps to Gainwell's 20, and out-touched him 13-12. The silver lining for Gainwell is that he caught all six of his targets, but turned that into only 14 yards.
In a game that the Steelers led from start to finish and ran only 58 plays to the Browns' 74, it's entirely possible that Warren could have seen more work if not for it being his first game back. Warren is still the Steelers' starting back, but even if the team employs both players in a closer split, Gainwell lacks the explosiveness to turn his limited touches into anything that can be reliably trusted for fantasy.
