Fantasy Football Drop Candidates

Read about fantasy football players to consider dropping for Week 12:

J.K. Dobbins, Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins (foot) has a "significant" foot injury that will require season-ending surgery, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. Dobbins suffered the injury in Week 10 and had already been ruled out for Denver's Week 11 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, but he will now be placed on Injured Reserve.

It's an unfortunate development for the oft-injured 26-year-old, who was having a solid season in his first year in Denver. Through 10 games, Dobbins had recorded 772 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 153 carries. With Dobbins sidelined, Broncos rookie running back RJ Harvey profiles as the team's RB1 for Week 11 and beyond.

Fellow backs Tyler Badie and Jaleel McLaughlin could also factor in Denver, but neither profiles as a true threat to surpass Harvey. UPDATE: One source said Dobbins "will be ready in February if the Broncos make the Super Bowl."

Sam LaPorta, TE, Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta (back) was placed on Injured Reserve ahead of the Week 11 Sunday night game against the Philadelphia Eagles. LaPorta did not practice this week and was ruled out before their primetime game against the Eagles.

Through nine games, LaPorta has hauled in 40 of 49 targets for 489 yards and three touchdowns, ranking as the TE8 in PPR formats. LaPorta's absence should upgrade the other weapons across the board, especially Jameson Williams and tight end Brock Wright, who is questionable to play this weekend with an ankle injury.

It stands to be seen if he'll be ready to return after the minimum required time, but the next chance that LaPorta has to return is in Week 15, when they head to Los Angeles to take on the Rams.

Justin Fields, QB, New York Jets

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports that the New York Jets are making a change at quarterback and will bench Justin Fields in favor of veteran Tyrod Taylor, according to a source. Through 11 weeks, the Jets rank dead-last in the league in passing yards per game under Fields.

The 26-year-old has limited the turnovers (one interception) in his first year with the Jets, but he's thrown for only seven touchdowns and 1,259 yards on 204 attempts in nine starts. While last Thursday night's loss to the New England Patriots was one of his better performances, he still threw for only 116 yards and also lost a fumble.

Fields has gone under 100 yards passing in four of his nine games in 2025. He could get another shot before the end of the season if Taylor isn't much better, but for now, there's no reason to keep him rostered in redraft fantasy leagues.

Marcus Mariota, QB, Washington Commanders

Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota finished Sunday with 213 yards passing, 49 yards rushing, one touchdown pass, and an interception in an overtime loss against Miami.

Filling in for starter Jayden Daniels (elbow), the veteran was solid if unspectacular by completing 20 of 30 passing attempts and breaking a 44-yard run that accounted for most of his rushing yardage. Mariota briefly departed the game to be checked for a concussion, but re-entered and finished the game.

Unfortunately for Washington, his lone pick was a big one: Miami intercepted him on the first play of overtime and was able to kick a short field goal to clinch victory. From a fantasy perspective, Mariota should maintain Superflex value as long as Daniels is hurt.

Rashid Shaheed, WR, Seattle Seahawks

Many fantasy gamers were hoping that a midseason change of scenery for Rashid Shaheed, who is still 76% rostered in Yahoo leagues, would have a positive impact on his production, but that has been far from true.

Since arriving to the contending Seattle Seahawks after being traded by the rebuilding New Orleans Saints, the speedy veteran has garnered 6 total targets (1 red zone), and mustered 3 catches for a total of 8.2 fantasy points in PPR scoring formats.

While he remains as a viable bench stash in deeper 14+ team leagues and formats that start four wide receivers, most fantasy managers in 10-12 team leagues should be looking at the waiver wire for options with higher floors and a greater scoring ceiling. Even though the Seahawks get a favorable road matchup versus the Tennessee Titans, it's safe to drop Rashid Shaheed heading into Week 12.
