Running Back Fantasy Football Outlooks
Bhayshul Tuten - RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Bhayshul Tuten, drafted early in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, has absolutely monstrous athletic upside. He ran a 4.32-second 40-yard-dash after showcasing his blinding speed on tape in 2024. He was also an excellent tackle-breaker and was very elusive, as both the tape and his advanced stats showed. Technically, he's in a crowded running back room, joined by veterans Travis Etienne Jr. and Tank Bigsby.
The team also selected LeQuint Allen in the seventh round of this year's draft. But new head coach Liam Coen made a rookie Bucky Irving a league-winner with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, and Tuten was the first running back he was presumably involved heavily in selecting. Etienne had a terrible 2024 after a wildly inefficient (sub-4.0 yard per carry) season in 2023, and Bigsby has massive fumbling issues and a lack of pass-catching upside.
Tuten will seize the starting job and run with it as soon as he rips of his first touchdown of 50 yards or more. He's immediately one of the best athletes at the RB position in the league. Sleep on him at your own peril. He is worth reaching for in redraft and dynasty leagues.
RJ Harvey - RB, Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos selected R.J. Harvey in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. It was a bit of a surprise as he was seen as an underrated prospect entering the NFL Draft and was not expected to get second-round draft capital. However, Broncos head coach Sean Payton clearly saw something he liked. Harvey now joins Reggie Bush, Mark Ingram II, and Alvin Kamara as the only backs Payton has selected in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft.
This list certainly puts Harvey in good company. Ultimately, it doesn't guarantee anything as Harvey will need to produce with the touches he's given. Still, Denver has one of the best run-blocking offensive lines in the league and has been looking for a running back upgrade this offseason.
The team has seemingly pegged Harvey as their man. He has good burst, vision, and hardly goes down on first contact. Harvey has everything needed to be the next great fantasy running back in Payton's offense. Despite the team's addition of veteran J.K. Dobbins, gamers should feel comfortable using a mid-round pick to select Harvey in their drafts.
Kyren Williams - RB, Los Angeles Rams
Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams has been one of the more consistent fantasy options in recent years. After finishing as the RB7 in PPR formats in 2023, many fantasy managers believed another top-10 running back finish was not possible. He was set to return punts, and the Rams selected Blake Corum in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
However, Williams showed last year that this is firmly his backfield. The 24-year-old ran 316 times for 1,299 yards and 14 touchdowns across 16 games. Those strong numbers helped him finish as the RB7 in PPR formats for the second consecutive year. Meanwhile, Corum only saw 58 opportunities on the ground in his rookie season. Therefore, this will be Williams' backfield once again.
He saw at least 18 carries in 10 of 16 games and averaged just over 17 PPR fantasy points per game. Now, fumbles remain a huge problem for the Pro Bowl running back. He fumbled six times throughout the 2024-2025 season. But if he hangs onto the ball and doesn't turn it over as much, this is his backfield to lose. That makes him a strong RB1 option once again this year.
James Cook - RB, Buffalo Bills
Buffalo Bills running back James Cook has posted strong fantasy numbers in consecutive seasons. He finished as the RB12 in PPR formats in 2023 and the RB8 in PPR formats in 2024. Last year, Cook ran 207 times for 1,009 yards and 16 touchdowns across 16 games. He also caught 32 passes for 258 yards and two touchdowns through the air. However, some touchdown regression should be coming his way.
After scoring just four rushing touchdowns in his first two NFL campaigns, the 25-year-old tied the franchise record for most rushing touchdowns in a season by a Bills running back. So, it's hard to believe that Cook will score another 16 rushing touchdowns in 2025. He only saw 207 carries last season, and Ray Davis should continue to have a role in this Buffalo offense.
Even though the former Georgia product played under 50% of the team's offensive snaps in eight of 17 games in 2024, he should be a strong RB2 option for fantasy managers this season. He has stayed relatively healthy in his career, and this is a contract year for him. Cook averaged 16.7 PPR fantasy points per game last year.
Bucky Irving - RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-year running back Bucky Irving took over the lead role in the backfield after the Week 11 bye and didn't look back, winning fantasy leagues all over for managers. Irving finished his rookie season with 1,122 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while adding 392 receiving yards. The 22-year-old will split work with Rachaad White and Sean Tucker again, but figures to take the bulk of the workload after impressing down the stretch of the 2024 season.
Irving took 32% of the team's rush attempts after the Week 11 bye while White took 29% and Tucker took 10%. For Irving to pay off at cost, he is going to have to remain hyper-efficient on a per-touch basis or he is going to have to grow the gap between himself and White.
New offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard has already made comments noting that this is a committee, which could scare managers away from Irving's Round 2 ADP.
