Should I Pickup Kenny Pickett For Fantasy Football Week 13? What Quarterback Should I Target On The Waiver Wire?

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett has flashed potential this year. After Mitch Trubisky started the first three games this season, the Steelers turned to the rookie.

The former Pittsburgh Panther replaced the veteran at halftime of the team’s Week 4 matchup against the New York Jets. While he couldn’t lead the Steelers to a victory, Pickett did score two rushing touchdowns in the game.

More importantly, the first-round pick has played better as the season has progressed.

Over the first five games in his career, Pickett averaged 10.1 fantasy points per game, scoring 12.3 or fewer fantasy points in every contest. However, things have changed since the team’s Week 9 bye.

Since the bye week, the rookie has averaged 15.7 fantasy points per game. Furthermore, he hasn’t turned the ball over in the past three weeks. Overall, the former Pittsburgh Panther has played well this year and put up similar numbers to former Steelers’ great Ben Roethlisberger.

While he has played well on the field, Pickett hasn’t become a reliable fantasy quarterback. He has averaged 15.7 fantasy points per game since the bye week, but his production has dropped each week. After scoring 19.1 fantasy points in Week 10, Pickett scored 16 fantasy points in Week 11 and only 12.2 last week against the Indianapolis Colts.

The rookie’s future is bright, but he isn’t worth a roster spot in single-quarterback leagues.

Fantasy players should have no trouble finding a streaming option this week with only two teams on a bye. However, one sneaky under-the-radar option is Mac Jones. The New England Patriots quarterback is available in over 90% of ESPN leagues.

The second-year player is coming off the best performance in his career. He had 382 passing yards and 23.3 fantasy points against the Minnesota Vikings, both career-highs. Furthermore, Jones had two passing touchdowns, a season-high.

This week he faces the Buffalo Bills, who won’t have Von Miller for this game. Furthermore, the Bills have given up 307 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and 19.7 fantasy points per game over the past three weeks.

More importantly, Jones has protected the ball this year. He hasn’t thrown an interception since Week 8 against the Jets.
