The 2022 NFL season had one of the most notable trade deadlines of recent memory, with plenty of players changing locations to finish the season. One of the most expected trades never materialized though, with the Houston Texans Brandin Cooks remaining with the team.
Cooks, the veteran receiver, was unpleased, leading to him missing Houston’s Week 9 game against the Eagles for “personal reasons”. With Cooks and Nico Collins (injury) missing, Phillip Dorsett and Chris Moore took the lead against the Eagles. Dorsett ultimately finished with three receptions for 69 yards and operated as the team’s WR1.
With bye weeks in full swing, fantasy managers are looking for anybody to replace the empty holes that will inevitably pop up. Should fantasy manager spend FAAB or waiver priority to add Phillip Dorsett to fill that gap? Find out below.

Phillip Dorsett struggled to get a foothold in the Texans’ run-heavy offense to start the season. From Weeks 1 through 5, Dorsett caught just one of four targets for 15 yards and failed to log a snap share above 22%. However, he’s seen his role grow since the team’s Week 6 bye.
In Houston’s last three games, the veteran wide receiver has caught six of 13 targets for 120 yards and a touchdown. Most importantly, he’s been on the field for at least 54% of the team’s snaps over the last three weeks. While the production isn’t consistent, it is trending positively.
Dorsett is an explosive, downfield playmaker who can take the ball to the end zone on any given touch. However, his targets will remain inconsistent given his role in the offense. It's only a matter of time until Nico Collins returns, and the team can rectify their situation with Brandin Cooks at any moment.
Dorsett is not a primary option in the passing attack and shouldn’t be a priority waiver add. However, he could provide streaming production in a very boom-or-bust fashion in a pinch. He could be player fantasy managers add after a waiver run if they’re forced into a challenging situation.
