Should I drop Tyrone Tracy Jr. for fantasy football Week 4? Is Tyrone Tracy Jr. a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.
New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. went down in Week 3 with a shoulder injury and is expected to miss multiple games. While he was expected to be the team's lead running back this season, he hadn't been able to get much traction early in the year. With the potential for a reduced role when he returns, is he worth holding on to at this point on your fantasy football team?
Tracy was already losing work to rookie Cam Skattebo before the injury occurred, and now Skattebo will be the team's primary workhorse back alongside his fellow rookie Jaxson Dart, who will make his first NFL start in Week 4 against the Chargers.
It was only last year, though, when Tracy was the exciting young rookie pushing for playing time and ultimately winning the job. He showed good upside last year and could still have a significant role when he returns. So, should you drop Tracy and search elsewhere for RBs, or is he worth hanging on to? Let's dive in!

Should I Drop Tyrone Tracy Jr. in Fantasy Football?
Tracy had a strong rookie season, racking up 839 rushing yards on his 192 carries and adding 284 yards on 38 catches out of the backfield. The fifth-round pick from Purdue had six touchdowns, and his over 1,000 rushing and receiving yards are even more impressive when you realize he was barely involved for the first four games of the season, totaling just 12 carries in those games.
Starting with his breakout game against the Seahawks in Week 5, Tracy had three games of 100+ rushing yards and was regularly involved as a pass-catcher out of the backfield as well.
2025 didn't start so well for him, though. He had 10 carries for 24 yards in Week 1, five carries for 15 yards in Week 3, and seven carries for 29 yards before leaving Week 3. He did have multiple catches in each contest and posted eight catches for 54 receiving yards overall.
He was hurt while catching a pass out of the backfield and taking a hard hit on his shoulder on Sunday Night Football against the Chiefs.
Here's his prognosis via Adam Schefter:
Doctors believe Giants RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. is expected to be sidelined two to four weeks due to the dislocated shoulder injury he suffered Sunday night vs. Kansas City, per sources. Skattebo is a real threat to seize the full-time job while Tracy is recovering. He was already in a growing role before Tracy's injury. In Week 2, he had 11 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown, and in Week 3, he filled in with six catches for 61 yards and 10 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown in the Giants' loss to the Chiefs.
Skattebo and Dart will be the start of the new era for the Giants, and if they find success, Tracy may return to a much smaller role. He is a converted wide receiver and has worked well as a pass-catcher out of the backfield for coach Brian Daboll before. It makes sense for him to slide in as a pass-catching back and third-down and two-minute drill specialist, even if Skattebo does keep most of the early down work.
Tracy still has upside, so if you can stash him in an IR spot or even on your bench in deeper leagues, he's worth holding on to. However, if you believe in Skattebo and think his role will be smaller when he returns, Tracy is definitely droppable in standard leagues. The real question is whether there is a better option on the table in your league.
Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?
At this point in the NFL season, there is no shortage of options in the backfield, but it does take some work to decode the timeshares and try to find players poised to break out. Let's start with the obvious names: Skattebo and Trey Benson are set to step into huge workloads after the injuries to Tracy and James Conner (foot). While Skattebo and Benson are mostly grabbed, they're the top priority if still available. Further down the depth charts for those teams, Devin Singletary and Emari Demercado could also work into larger roles in support of the new starters.
Two other season-ending injuries have opened up playing time with Austin Ekeler (Achilles) and Najee Harris (Achilles) done for the season. While Omarion Hampton will take most of the work for the Bolts and Jacory Croskey-Merritt will likely do most of the heavy lifting for the Commanders, there could be work for Hassan Haskins and Chris Rodriguez Jr. as well. Even Jeremy McNichols was in on the action in Week 3 for the Commanders!
Four other rookies are worth considering as well. Bhayshul Tuten is stepping into more work in Jacksonville. Kyle Monangai is getting more playing time with the Bears. Ollie Gordon II had his first touchdown for Miami last Thursday, and Woody Marks played almost half the snaps in Houston.
With so many other places to look, Tracy is probably not the best hold at this point since his role when he returns is uncertain, and he won't be helping you in the short term while he's out. In deep leagues, he's worth keeping or putting in an IR spot, but you can probably do better on the open market, which brings us to our Pickup Tool.
