Time to Drop RJ Harvey? Fantasy Football Week 4 Waiver Wire Outlook (2025)

RJ Harvey - Fantasy Football Rankings, Draft Sleepers, NFL Rookies

Should I drop RJ Harvey for fantasy football Week 4? Is RJ Harvey a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.

Denver Broncos running back RJ Harvey got some good preseason hype after the Broncos drafted him in the second round and seemed ready to give him a significant workload. He was expected to share work with veteran J.K. Dobbins, but seemed to have the inside track on possibly even taking over as the primary back.

Harvey has not brought the upside his managers were hoping for. He has played only about a third of snaps and has had a disappointingly small workload each week.

With bye weeks around the corner, roster spots are about to get tight. So, should you drop Harvey and grab one of the running backs in better situations, or is he worth hanging on to? Let's dive in!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Should I Drop RJ Harvey in Fantasy Football?

Harvey has flashed fantasy potential with some explosive plays, but his touches have been too few and far between for him to be a reliable option right now.

In Week 1, he had six carries for 70 yards as well as a catch that lost a yard against the Titans. In Week 2, he only managed five carries for eight yards but added a 16-yard reception. In Week 3, he had only two carries for two yards but did add three catches for 14 yards. His touches have decreased each week, while his snap share has hovered at around 30%.

Part of the reason for his limited usage is that Dobbins has been so effective. The former Raven and Charger has a touchdown and over 60 yards in each game. He had his best game of the season in Week 3, taking 11 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown. He did rotate out on some third downs with Harvey stepping in, but Dobbins dominated the timeshare, including the goal line work.

While the Broncos are 1-2, the offense has looked solid overall with Dobbins in the backfield, and he doesn't look like he'll be giving up touches to the rookie in the short term.

Harvey is still a very valuable handcuff and could be a huge contributor if Dobbins gets hurt. However, it doesn't look like he has a large enough role to provide standalone value at this point in the timeshare. If you're in a deeper league, holding onto him could be necessary, but in standard 10-team leagues, other running back situations have more immediate potential.

Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?

There are a few running backs whose situation puts them in a better spot than Harvey is in right now that can potentially offer more upside. Cam Skattebo and Trey Benson are both in a position to pick up huge workloads with injuries to Tyrone Tracy Jr. (shoulder) and James Conner (foot). In most leagues, those options are already gone, but there's also some potentially sneaky value in Devin Singletary and Emari Demercado, who could also work into larger roles.

With Najee Harris' injury, Hassan Haskins could get more work in the rotation with Omarion Hampton since the Chargers prefer to use multiple running backs in a rotation. Last week, Austin Ekeler's injury opened up time for Chris Rodriguez Jr., and Bhayshul Tuten is also working his way into a more involved role in Jacksonville.

Kyle Monangai is another back in a growing role with some serious upside, and even veteran Kareem Hunt is worth a look since he's timesharing with Isiah Pacheco in the Chiefs backfield. Ollie Gordon II is another name to watch since he played more in Week 3 for Miami.

Because of all the shifting situations, lots of running backs have value that puts them ahead of Harvey in the short term. If you can snag one of them off the waiver wire, it makes sense to move on from Harvey. There is still a chance that he will work into a larger role and would definitely step up if Dobbins were to go down with an injury. He's still worth keeping if you can't grab a better option due to his long-term potential, but he's hard to hold right now.
