Zebby Matthews Making MLB Debut Against Royals
4 months agoMinnesota Twins right-handed pitching prospect Zebby Matthews was officially recalled from Triple-A St. Paul and will make his major-league debut in a start on Tuesday against the visiting division-rival Kansas City Royals. The Twins' No. 6 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has an opportunity to stick around in Minnesota's starting rotation for a bit if he pitches well, with both Joe Ryan (shoulder) and Chris Paddack (forearm) on the injured list. The 24-year-old stands at 6-foot-5, 225 pounds and comes with plenty of swing-and-miss stuff. The former eighth-rounder in 2022 out of Western Carolina dominated at Double-A Wichita this year before posting a 5.68 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in four starts for St. Paul. Matthews fanned 114 with just seven walks at three minor-league levels, though. His first MLB matchup against KC isn't ideal, but Matthews could be worth a look as a deep-league streamer if he sticks around in the Twins' rotation.
