Zack Gelof 2023 MLB Outlook: Solid All-Round Hitter Offers Glimpse Of A’s Future
2 years agoZack Gelof doesn't come with much fanfare among prospect rankings, but the Oakland A's expect him to be a mainstay in their infield for years to come. Last year, at 22 years old, Gelof hit .270/.352/.463 with 18 homers, 66 RBI, 61 runs and 10 stolen bases (96 games) across Double-A and Triple-A. A solid defender, Gelof could play third base in the Majors and scouts project his power to develop while still being able to make contact at a good rate. Gelof could easily be a 20 homer & 10 stolen base player while hitting for a decent average. Unfortunately, that's highly unlikely to be this year and even then, Oakland doesn't exactly have much of a supporting cast to make the most of it. The A's are highly unlikely to let Gelof break camp with the team and given he's only had a total of 51 plate appearances at Triple-A, more seasoning is likely needed. The flip side of that is they don't have anyone to block a route to regular playing time when he does get called up. If Gelof can excel in Spring Training and get off to a hot start at Triple-A, he will certainly be a consideration for an early season call-up and could be a solid contributor for your fantasy teams in 2023.
