Zach Eflin Impressive In Spring Debut
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zach Eflin threw two scoreless innings in his Grapefruit League debut Wednesday against the Tigers. Eflin struck out three, including back-to-back strikeouts to end a dominant first inning where he needed just 11 pitches. The 26-year-old righty is coming off a strong season where he posted a career-best 3.97 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. His improvements are supported by a change in pitch-mix to feature his sinker and curveball more. This led to an improvement in most skill-based pitching metrics including a whopping 10 percent increase in K-rate (28.6). Eflin should be drafted before his near-200 average draft position.
