Yoenis Cespedes 2020 Outlook: Trying To Get Healthy Again At Age 34
5 years agoThe 2019 season was a lost one for Yoenis Cespedes, as he underwent surgical procedures on both heels and then suffered a very serious ankle injury. We have not seen Cespedes play regularly since 2016 as he has battled injury issues. There is optimism that he will be ready for this season, but he could also begin the year on the Injured List or be traded out of New York. Fantasy players can only consider anything they get from Cespedes as a bonus this year, as he does not seem to be firmly in the Mets’ plans as he works his way back into playing form. Last we saw Cespedes for a half-season in 2017, his Exit Velocity had dipped to 89.9 from 91.7 the previous season. His Hard Hit % was down to 43.5, still impressive, but down from his outstanding 47.5 mark in 2016. Cespedes is entering his age-34 season, and coming off severe health issues, so it’s difficult to have confidence in him revisiting levels of production we have not seen since 2016. With an ADP of 502.68, Cespedes should be regarded as an afterthought in fantasy drafts so far. He is not guaranteed consistent playing time when available and may be a post-draft waiver add if he surprises early.
