Yoan Moncada Will Look To Build Off Strong Finish To 2017
7 years agoThe prime piece of the Chris Sale blockbuster trade prior to 2017 was infielder Yoan Moncada. The leagues' top prospect started the season with Triple-A Charlotte before getting promoted to the big league roster in July. The infielder got off to a sluggish start which included a shin injury and trip to the disabled list. After recovering from his shin injury, Moncada stepped it up and hit .276 with five home runs and driving in 18 RBI in the final month of the season. The biggest flaw for the youngster right now is plate discipline. Moncada struck out 74 times over 199 at-bats and only walked 29 times. Plate discipline is a very noteworthy factor when judging younger players and that will need to improve for Moncada to reach his true potential.Aside from his plate discipline, Moncada's potential is sky-high and he should be looked at in all leagues. In keeper, dynasty and AL-only leagues, he should be considered a must-own player. In deeper mixed leagues, he is worth targeting in the middle-to-late rounds. Be prepared for an up-and-down season as he is still adjusting to the big league game, but he has shown too much potential leave undrafted.
