2 years agoColumbus Blue Jackets winger Yegor Chinakhov ended up leading the NHL with six preseason goals. He completed his preparations for the new campaign with a power-play goal in Saturday's 4-3 loss to Washington. No other player managed more than four goals during the preseason, and Chinakhov also tallied an assist in six appearances. The young Russian winger put in impressive work, but his shooting percentage at 42.9 is unsustainable and he won't be scoring at that pace during the regular season, especially when the Blue Jackets have a full roster available, which wasn't the case during the preseason. However, Chinakhov is among Columbus' top prospects and he should play a bigger role in 2022-23 compared to last season when he averaged just 12 and a half minutes a night and couldn't do much with the limited playing time, settling for seven goals and seven assists across 62 outings.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

3 weeks agoColumbus Blue Jackets winger Yegor Chinakhov will be scratched for Thursday's matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Russian forward recently returned from a back injury and will come out of the lineup after playing in four games. Chinakhov has not scored any points since his return and went minus-six in limited ice time, so he clearly isn't at his best presently. The Blue Jackets will use Christian Fischer instead of him against Vegas. Fischer should not be considered a viable fantasy option, as he has posted only seven points (one goal, six assists) in 45 appearances this season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

1 month agoColumbus Blue Jackets winger Yegor Chinakhov (back) is good to go on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning after being sidelined for 39 games. It has been a long road back for Chinakhov, who last played on Nov. 27. He reportedly consulted with at least six doctors, including one in his native Russia, to resolve his back issue. Chinakhov started the season with a five-game point streak and has tallied 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 21 games. On Tuesday, he will return to action on the second line and is expected to spend time with the second power-play unit.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

6 months agoColumbus Blue Jackets right wing Yegor Chinakhov (lower body) will play against Minnesota on Saturday. There was a question mark hanging over Chinakhov after he was hurt in the previous game and didn't participate in Friday's practice, but the Russian winger isn't forced to miss any games. It's great news for the Blue Jackets, as Chinakhov has been one of the team's best players early in the campaign. With four games played, Chinakhov has tallied two goals and four assists, sharing Columbus' scoring lead with Kirill Marchenko. However, Saturday's matchup is a tough one for Chinakhov and the rest of the Blue Jackets' frontline against a team that is tied for the sixth-best defensive record in the league.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

10 months agoColumbus Blue Jackets right wing Yegor Chinakhov has signed a two-year extension with the team. Coming off an entry-level deal that paid him $3.975 million across three years, Chinakhov will receive $4.2 million for his services through the next couple of campaigns. The 23-year-old went for 16 goals and 29 points in 53 games this season, missing the final 17 contests with an upper-body injury. Chinakhov, who boasts 56 points (27 goals, 29 assists) in 145 career games, has shown a good amount of upside and is set for a fresh start in Columbus next season following the firing of head coach Pascal Vincent.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
