Yariel Rodriguez Back From The Injured List
6 months agoThe Toronto Blue Jays activated rookie right-hander Yariel Rodriguez (back) from the 15-day injured list on Monday, according to sources. Rodriguez will report to the team on Monday for the start of a series against the visiting Boston Red Sox. The Cuban right-hander had a 1.93 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched over six minor-league rehab games with Triple-A Buffalo, so he looks ready to go as a rotation option for Toronto moving forward. MLB.com's Keegan Matheson writes that it makes sense for Rodriguez to take the fifth spot in the starting rotation. In his last rehab start, the 27-year-old struck out seven and walked three while allowing two earned runs in three innings (79 pitches). There's intriguing long-term upside with Rodriguez, but Toronto will surely limit his innings down the stretch this year, and he will remain an option to work as a tandem starter with Bowden Francis. UPDATE: Rodriguez will go through his usual between-starts routing over the next few days and is a candidate to start this weekend against the Cleveland Guardians.
