Yankees Still Have A Chance To Land Blake Snell
10 months agoFree-agent left-hander Blake Snell and the New York Yankees continue to discuss potential scenarios, but so far it's just talk without much progress. Snell would give the Yankees both reigning Cy Young winners and make them the clear favorite in the American League. However, any deal for Snell would also trigger a 110 percent tax, meaning the move would cost more than double his salary. The Yankees continue to keep the lines of communication open with Snell, but after talking on Monday, the two sides don't appear to be any closer to a deal. One Yankees person characterized the chances for a deal as extremely low. The 31-year-old Snell is going to cost $30 million a year, so it's unclear how many other teams remain in the market for him. So far, the Yankees have made the only known public offer to Snell -- for five years, although they are believed to be willing to go six years at close to $28 million per year.
