Yankees Decline Edwin Encarnacion's Option

The New York Yankees declined their 2020 option for first baseman/designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion on Thursday, making him a free agent. The 36-year-old slugger was lost at the plate in the postseason for the Yanks, but he was productive in 44 games for them in the second half, hitting .249/.325/.531 with 13 home runs and 37 RBI. He started the year with Seattle and hit .244 with 34 homers and 86 RBI in 109 total games between the Mariners and Yankees. Encarnacion isn't getting any younger, but he can still provide pop for an American League team that is willing to let him serve as a DH. He's become a one-dimensional player in both real life and for fantasy rosters.
