Willson Contreras Getting A Rest Day
1 year agoSt. Louis Cardinals catcher Willson Contreras will start on the bench on Wednesday as the team faces the Miami Marlins in the series finale. Ivan Herrera will take over behind the plate and hit sixth in the batting order against Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara. It's a good time for a rest for Contreras, as he went hitless in seven at-bats with four strikeouts in the first two games of the series against Miami. Despite the rough last two games, Contreras has picked things up in the month of July, going 13-for-30 (.433) with three home runs, four doubles, six RBI and six runs scored in nine games. He has had five multi-hit performances. The recent hot stretch has raised the 31-year-old's season slash line to .238/.331/.421. Contreras has added 11 home runs, 37 RBI, five steals and 36 runs scored in 290 at-bats in his first year in St. Louis.
