William Smith 2021 Fantasy Outlook: Big Upside, Higher Price Tag
4 years agoThe Los Angeles Dodgers backstop has been nothing but great in his first two seasons as a major leaguer. William Smith has racked up 23 homers and a .268/.363/.574 slash line in 91 career games. He made major strides in 2020 with a .289/.401/.579 slash line while dropping his strikeout rate to 16.1% and raising his walk rate to 14.6%. Those are elite numbers, and given Smith's great minor league career, there is real reason to believe that he will be the best hitting catcher in the league for quite a while. Production is no longer the question. The question is now about what ADP is justified for a catcher who will max out at 120 starts? The answer to that is dependent on your league settings and opinion. What we know is that Smith is going to cost you a top-125 pick, putting a lot of pressure on him to continue that elite production. Personal preference reigns here, but most of us at RotoBaller would not recommend paying the premium here.
