William Byron Comes Up Short At Charlotte
2 years agoPole-sitter William Byron ran a strong race on Monday at the Coca-Cola 600, but he could not get past the dominant car of Ryan Blaney. Byron led 91 laps throughout the race, but the long-run speed of Blaney was too much to overcome. Byron's pit crew was one of the best in the race, continually gaining spots on pit road, but he was never able to maintain the lead. After multiple late-race cautions, he fell to second on the final restart with 20 laps remaining. He was only able to close the gap to one second, ultimately coming in second place at 0.663 seconds behind Blaney. Up next, the Cup Series travels to St. Louis, where Byron hopes to improve on his 19th-place finish in 2022.
