7 years agoKansas City Royals second baseman Whit Merrifield took the start in center field following the trade of Jon Jay to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Merrifield already qualifies in the outfield, so no new positional eligibility should come from the move, but it's also unclear if it will be a more permanent solution to the hole. KC has a plethora of mediocre outfielders scattered throughout the organization's roster, but since they're in the middle of a rebuild, perhaps one of their prospects will get the call. Abraham Almonte may see increased playing time, or newly claimed 25-year-old Rosell Herrera may get the opportunity. It could also open up second base for Raul Mondesi.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
