Whit Merrifield Goes Yard, Scores Three Runs
4 years agoKansas City Royals second baseman Whit Merrifield set the table for a big offensive showing for the Royals against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. Merrifield went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, a stolen base, two RBI and three runs in a 13-2 Royals victory. Merrifield has recorded a hit in five of the team's six games this month and is slashing .298/.344/.561 on the year. The home run was Merrifield's fourth of the year, which has put him on a home run pace far superior to what we've seen from him in previous years. He homered in just 2.3% of his at-bats last season. This season so far, he's nearly tripled that rate, hitting home runs in 7% of his at-bats. If he can sustain power numbers even close to this, he could jump into the top two or three rounds of fantasy drafts by next year.
