Framber Valdez 2019 Outlook: Role Uncertain, Prominence Remains
6 years agoHouston Astros prospect Framber Valdez wasn't as highly-heralded as many blue-chip prospects, but once he was called up late last season he had a measurable impact. Across 37 innings, he posted a 2.19 ERA (five starts, eight total appearances) along with a respectable 8.27 K/9, and gave the Astros something to think about heading into 2019. The back end of their rotation is unsettled as it sits currently, and the 25-year-old Valdez is going to duke it out with Josh James for the fifth spot in the rotation. Even if he doesn't get that fifth spot, he will likely remain in the bullpen and be the next man up should something happen to a starter. Valdez is a very intriguing last-round dart throw in drafts this year.
