Tyrell Williams Opens Game With Long TD
6 years agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Tyrell Williams did something no Charger has done in 17 years. On the first play from scrimmage on Sunday, Williams hauled in a pass and flew 75 yards for the touchdown. It was the first time the team had scored an opening-play touchdown since 2001, and it was actually a called shot by Shane Steichen, the team's quarterbacks coach. Apparently, Steichen had seen something in his film preparation that led him to tell the team that an opening play TD was basically a sure thing, and he was right. Williams would go on to lead the team in receiving yards for the second straight week, and after tallying just 192 yards over the first five games of the season, Williams has now racked up 118 yards in back-to-back games. He's still a bit unpredictable from week to week due to the number of offensive options available to Philip Rivers, but it's good to see the team apparently remember that Williams is a former 1,000-yard receiver.
