Triston McKenzie 2021 Player Outlook: Success Limited Only By Health and Innings
4 years agoCleveland Indians rookie starting pitcher Triston McKenzie has the stuff that makes fantasy managers swoon. It's easy to fall in love with a guy that generates a 26% K-BB, fed by 35% Chase and 12.4% Swinging Strike rates. McKenzie manipulated four pitches to success, led by a slider that generated 41.7% strikeout and only 55% contact rates. It's also worth noting that he only allowed a single hit on his curveball that he threw 91 times. McKenzie should have a fruitful 2021, even allowing for a little regression due to a .217 BABIP and 84% LOB, but he is not without risk. The primary concern will be ensuring he stays on the mound. McKenzie has had health issues that hopefully major league conditioning can resolve. Assuming he has a rotation spot, he should be a full commit, but keep in mind his innings will be limited as a rookie. Even with the minor risks, an ADP of 161 might be the perfect time to take a chance on an upside pick like McKenzie.
