Washington Capitals defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk suffered an apparent hand injury in Sunday's preseason game against Buffalo. He left the contest late in the third period after blocking a shot with his right hand. The 32-year-old tallied an assist in 18:30 of action before exiting. The Capitals, who lost the game 4-3 in a shootout, will re-evaluate van Riemsdyk on Monday. Van Riemsdyk is preparing for his third full season with the Capitals. He posted a career-high 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 75 games last term.--Taavi Pailk
