Trent Grisham 2020 Outlook: Intriguing Sleeper Pick Toward The End Of Drafts
5 years agoTrent Grisham's big league debut did not go well in 2019, as he slashed just .231/.328/.410 with six homers and a steal in 183 PAs. That said, you could do worse as a shot in the dark. Grisham had a stellar 2019 on the farm, slashing .254/.371/.504 with 13 HR and stellar plate discipline (15.5 BB%, 17.7 K%) in 283 Double-A PAs. His performance earned him a shot at Triple-A, where he was even better over 158 PAs (.381/.471/.776 with 13 HR, 14.6 BB%, 13.9 K%). His plate discipline translated to the majors immediately, as his 10.9 BB% was completely supported by his 22% chase rate. His 26.2 K% was way too high, but he didn't struggle in that regard in the minors. Grisham has also consistently posted a FB% above 40 over his minor league career, letting him compile a few homers even if his contact quality isn't the best (91 mph average airborne exit velocity, 5.4% Brls/BBE last year). He stole 13 bags across all levels in 2019, giving him a speed element to his game. Grisham isn't guaranteed to play given San Diego's crowded outfield situation, and moving to PETCO Park from Milwaukee is a net negative for his fantasy value. Still, there's plenty of potential here for a guy with an ADP of 288.24.
