Tony Wolters Walks Off Orioles
6 years agoColorado Rockies catcher Tony Wolters bailed out newly appointed closer Scott Oberg when he hit a deep fly to left to win the game on Sunday. Wolters, a career .237 hitter, told reporters after the game that he made a point of simplifying his offensive approach over the offseason, and it seems to be working so far. The defensive specialist is hitting .309 and striking out just 15% of the time this year, a massive improvement over his .170 batting average last year. Wolters still isn't much of a power play or going to turn into the next Mike Piazza, but he's one of only three full-time catchers hitting over .300 so far this year, so there's plenty of value there.
