Tommy Pham 2020 Outlook: New Team, Same Great Production
5 years agoTommy Pham continued his consistent production that fantasy players rely on in 2019. For the third straight season, Pham hit at least 21 home runs while also stealing at least 15 bases. He was one of only nine players to hit 20+ home runs and steal 20+ bases in 2019. His overall stat line of .273-21-77-68-25 was even more impressive as he was battling injuries most of the season. From July 28 on he battled hand injuries, a forearm injury and an eye injury in 2019, yet never landed on the injured list. His power numbers appeared to dip at the same time. Pham had 451 plate appearances before 28 July with a stat line of .273-16-50-45-12, but in 207 plate appearances afterward, he had a stat line of .279-5-26-22-13. Yes, it was half the at-bats but outside of average and steals he was not the same. Pham even saw his ISO and wRC+ drop to .176/130 from .188/121 in 2018. This offseason Pham was traded to the Padres. It will be Pham’s third team in three seasons, but don’t let that slow you down. He should be hitting near the top of the order for a much-improved Padres lineup. He is currently the 20th outfielder off the board around pick 70. Pham is a very solid target for those looking for reliable power and speed combo as he should be in line for another 20/20 season with major upside.
