Tommy Edman 2024 Player Outlook: A High Floor Speedster
11 months ago2023 was a slight down year for Edman, as he posted a career-low .248 AVG and 27 steals, a three-year low. Still, Edman has a lot to offer fantasy managers as a versatile speedster. He can play second base, shortstop, and outfield, and should be a lock for double digit homers and 25 steals so long as he stays healthy. Edman has added a little power every season, and put up a respectable 89.1 MPH average exit velocity and .150 ISO last season. His batting average could certainly rebound, as Edman had a career-low .275 BABIP last season despite being in the 87th percentile of sprint speed. He'll need to elevate the ball more, as Edman had a pitiful 16.8% line drive rate last season, compared to a 20.7% career mark. He won't be hitting .300 anytime soon, but a .260-.270 AVG is in the realm of possibility with some better contact. Edman's speed and versatility gives him a high floor, though there isn't much breakout potential here.
